Amida's Table - Diyarbakir History with Food

The table culture of the city of Diyarbakır, called Amida or Dikranagerd in Armenian and Amed in Kurdish, is a common value created by the people living in this region for centuries. Silva Özyerli, who was born and raised in Diyarbakır and who always carries his hometown within himself even though he lives in Istanbul today, has put all his knowledge into one of the most original books of his field in Amida's Table, which is the fruit of his long years of research, discovery, experimentation and production about Diyarbakır dishes. brings it to our attention. Özyerli, by making use of his own life, family history, interviews with older generation Diyarbakır residents, and research from written sources, brings to light the dishes in the way they were cooked in the past, although some of them are widely known today, a significant part of them is on the verge of extinction or has changed and transformed, and some of them are completely forgotten. The author's narrative style, developed by blending bittersweet events that left their mark on family history, brings Amida's Table closer to story and literature in many places and leaves an insatiable taste on the palate. The narrative that Özyerli weaves, step by step, also points to the possibilities of an alternative look at the history of Diyarbakır and its surroundings over the last hundred years or so, and in this respect, it fully deserves the title of "The History of Diyarbakır with Dinner".
