Analysis of the Self
Analysis of the Self is the first important work of American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Heinz Kohut, which started a new era on narcissism. In this book, Kohut developed a new theory, based on narcissistic transferences, that tries to remain within the framework of classical psychoanalysis. Kohut, who tried to approach narcissism with a sense of feeling free from value judgments, received great praise and heavy criticism for this work. His opponents accused him of "satisfying the transference rather than analyzing it". As a result, a new theoretical division emerged in the history of psychoanalysis; This debate between Kohut and Kernberg continues to be active today. The author's book, Reconstruction of the Self, which has integrity with this work, is also published by Metis. Listening to the Other is a specialized series. But all the books in the series are directly about people. An information about our lives, our own personal field of experience, our parents, our relationships with them, our difficult years of growing up... It is the kind of information that will help us develop our intuition about ourselves and other people, give new understanding opportunities, and that everyone will undoubtedly test with their own experiences while learning... This is what we aimed to do when we brought together the basic works written throughout the century in the field of psychiatry and psychoanalysis to form a library.
