Bedreddin - Imaginary Conversations
"I was longing for a just world. There should be room for all of us in that world. However, humanity was under the feet of armies slaughtering each other in power struggles. As I thought about the helplessness of the poor, I felt that we had to do something."
When it comes to Sheikh Bedreddin, we are left with questions whose answers are perhaps always ambiguous. Why did he take up the path of Sufism when he was a madrasah scholar? What is the reason why his ideas were so effective in Anatolia and the Balkans? Do their Christian-Hellenic roots have an impact on their thoughts about the equality of religions? Is Sheikh Bedreddin really the inspiration for the anti-private property ideas attributed to the rebels? How did his paths cross with Börklüce Mustafa and Torlak Kemal? Did he plan the rebellion or did he just walk in the direction of the wind?
With these questions in mind, Murat Küçük goes back six centuries and invites Bedreddin to an interview. He wants to get to know this rational fiqh scholar, open-hearted Sufi and sheikh who is the companion of the rebels... He takes us on a journey full of mind and heart with the aim of illuminating the events left in the darkness of history with an imaginary Bedreddin.
Note to the Reader: The imaginary interviews were prepared to provide an enjoyable read for those who want to meet or rediscover important names that changed the world and helped us understand it. Although these interviews are fictitious, they are based on biographical facts.
