Bektashi Catechism
Back Cover Text (From the Promotional Bulletin)
As a result of our research, Bektashi Catechism is the work of Mehmed Seyfeddin İbn-i Zülfikârî Derviş Ali, one of the Bektashi dervishes who was exiled from Istanbul during the banning of Bektashism in 1826, in which he explains Sharia, the first of the four gates in Bektashiism, and Tarikat, Ayn-i Cem, the second gate. The person who gave this name to the work is not Derviş Ali, but Necib Asım, who summarized the book. The book you have in your hand is a version of the book called "Bektashi Catechism", which was copied and published in Istanbul in 1925 by Necib Asım, one of the professors of Istanbul University, translated into today's Turkish. It was published to clarify many issues that cause confusion today.
While describing the İkrar Cemi, the author writes as follows: “… The new Talip also prays to get up and come to the presence of Dede Efendi. Then Dede Efendi should speak up and say to the disciple:
“Effendi so and so, you wish to enter this noble path, the path of the Twelve Imams, the path of Muhammad and the path of Hazrat-i Hünkar Hacı Bektaş Veli, but this is our path, which is very difficult and the path of evil, an iron bow. . Last regret is of no use. There is a saying of the saints that says, "Don't come, don't come, don't come back, don't come back." Dede Efendi should ask the suitor once or three times, "What do you think?" After the Talip prayed, Dede Efendi spoke again and said to the Talib: "Son, who do you want for guidance?" Let him ask three times or once. Let the suitor say so and so by name as if he wants it..."
