  • One day Hasan Cemal heard a scream. A young woman's voice echoing from the mountains of Kurdistan was saying "berxwedan jiyane"; "To live is to resist!" Hasan Cemal did not forget that scream and went after the owner of the voice. He could not find the young woman who had already breathed her last breath into those mountains, but he found her family, friends, comrades and words. That young woman's name is Delila; In her own words, "a singing guerrilla." Today, they describe Delila as "the Sezen Aksu of the Kurds." They still listen to and sing the songs he recorded in the mountains and in cities. Very few people know the story of that voice. Hasan Cemal shares the life of Delila or Silvanlı Şenay before going to the mountains with her closest friends; He learned by speaking and wrote. We can learn the story of Delila's days in the mountains from Hasan Cemal's own words, thanks to his journalistic curiosity and stubbornness. The mountain diaries that Şenay's family kept for safekeeping and forgot their place are breathing again with Hasan Cemal's hand; We can hear what a guerrilla experiences and feels from his inner voice. In these diaries, a young woman speaks, sometimes so naive as to be childish, sometimes hesitant, sometimes playful, sometimes angry, sometimes cheerful. Delila's diaries bring the inner conversations of a guerrilla to the reader for the first time in Turkey. This book, in which Hasan Cemal steps aside and leaves us alone with Delila, reminds us again of the simplest and most brutal truth of war. Most of the children died in this war.
