As we approach the end of the second millennium, the state's perspective on this issue is undoubtedly of key importance in the dimensionality of the Kurdish issue, which is probably Turkey's most 'heavy' issue, becoming unresolvable and gradually 'running out of words'. The shortest summary of this view that has become established in the language is "rejection..." and/or "denial policy". In his book, Mesut Yeğen draws our attention to the fact that this policy is not a simple 'deception': " The state perceived the Kurdish problem as a matter of 'reactionism', 'tribal resistance', 'banditry', foreign provocation' or 'regional underdevelopment'." This is partly what complicates the problem: This is how the state has really come to perceive the Kurdish issue. Yeğen shows how the codes of this perception were formed in the context of Turkey's modernization process. An important contribution of the book is that it emphasizes that Kurdish resistance can also be placed in its place within the context of the same modernization story. Yeğen also warns against the established opposition discourse that mythologises this resistance by placing it within the framework of a national identity immune from history.
