Diyarbekir's First Private Newspaper: Peyman Book Description Human beings, by nature, have wanted to share with others the events and facts they have experienced and witnessed in every period of history. Because of his curiosity, he always wanted to be informed about the events happening to others. This sense of curiosity of man has allowed him to find different methods of communication and express himself in different ways over time. They communicated through newspapers and magazines when necessary. Nowadays, they communicate with each other through different communication methods such as radio, television, telephone and internet. In this study, an example of the newspaper, which is one of these means of communication and one of the first tools that can be archived in terms of communication, was researched and tried to be brought to the scientific world. This newspaper named “Peymân” has an additional importance as it is the first known private newspaper of Diyarbekir Province in the Ottoman Period. The last years and the most turbulent period of the Ottoman Empire, II. This newspaper, published during the Constitutional Monarchy Period, reveals the political, economic, military and social events that took place in the Ottoman country, specifically the Diyarbekir Province. Since it is a local newspaper, it mostly covers the events in Diyarbekir Province. At the end of each issue, it also provides news about the events taking place in Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Empire, and the state's relations with other states. Although it is not known where the original texts of the Peyman newspaper are, this study was obtained by using the existing photocopies in the National Library and Diyarbakır Promotion Foundation. While the study was being carried out, the missing issues of the newspaper could not be obtained, so we had to make do with the available issues. When we look at the information in the first issue of the newspaper, it is understood that the privilege owner and responsible manager of the newspaper, which is published every Monday, is Mirîkâtibizâde Şükrü. Peyman newspaper consists of 36 issues. The first issue is dated 15 June 1325 (28 June 1909), and the last issue, 36, is dated 22 February 1325 (7 March 1910). Issues 16, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, 34 of Peyman Newspaper were not included in the study because they were missing. Although the existing issues are transcribed, the topics covered intensively in these issues are evaluated in the introduction of the work. In addition, concepts and expressions are supported with footnotes in order to benefit more from the information in the texts. Peyman writers generally focus on the Ottoman navy, the activities of the Committee of Union and Progress, Ottoman unity and brotherhood, World War II. They wrote articles on many subjects such as the practices of the Abdulhamid Period, the situation and reform of the tribes. The newspaper's writer staff includes many names such as Ziya Gökalp, Mirikatibizâde Şükrü, Mukâvelât Writer Amir Adil, Pirinçcizâde Feyzi, Union and Progress manager Captain Mazhar, as well as many writers who write without stating their names and signatures. He wrote articles under the pen names of Ziya Gökalp, Tevfîk Sedâd, Hüseyin Vedâd, Mehmed Mehdi, Mehmed Nâ'il. (From the Promotional Bulletin)
