Ethnographic Stories
Anthropologists often talk about the various personal experiences they had during fieldwork in conversations with friends. But when qualitative studies are put on paper, these experiences, which are seen as "unimportant details", "setbacks", or even "failures", are often not reflected. However, some situations that the researcher encounters or is involved in in the field (such as identity conflicts, bureaucratic and ideological obstacles) may not only affect the progress of the research, but may even change its direction.
Ethnographic Stories focuses on these personal stories, that is, the experiences of researchers who have returned from adventurous journeys as individuals who have experienced the difficulties, uncertainties, turmoil, reckoning and tensions of the field process. The authors in the book discuss the "disturbing" situations, ethical problems, and emotional ups and downs they encountered while doing their research, from an intellectual and human perspective and with a frank heart. They ask questions.
These articles, which point to the practical and theoretical conditions and discussions of fieldwork, refresh our perspective on social sciences by allowing us to think about the points where life and research intersect and diverge, in dialogue and sometimes conflict with each other.
