Çağrı Mert Bakırcı is a graduate of METU and is doing his doctorate on Evolutionary Robotics and Algorithms and Biologically Inspired Engineering at Texas Tech University in the USA. Throughout his education, he has been academically interested in robotics, artificial intelligence, evolutionary biology, neurobiology and animal behavior (ethology). He has been interested in science since 2000 and has been a science writer since 2004. He founded the METU Machinery and Innovation Community in 2008 and the Evrim Ağacı in 2010. Bakırcı, with his Evrim Ağaç team, has organized public trainings in high schools and universities all over Turkey, with the participation of thousands of people. Within the scope of the Evrim Ağacı project, Bakırcı has written more than 400 popular science articles on the website evrimagaci.org. Evolution Tree has tens of thousands of readers on its Facebook page. The studies carried out by Evrim Ağacı were deemed worthy of support by the European Society for Evolutionary Biology (ESEB), an academic organization, in 2012. All projects developed by Bakırcı within Evrim Ağaç aim to make the scientific foundations of evolutionary biology easily understood by the public in Turkey and to correct ongoing misunderstandings on the subject.
