Gelincikler Açarken
When Poppies Are Blooming is the novel of the eternal, unconditional and pure love of two young people from the Salor village of Sasun. However, this love is also premature, as the Armenian people are on the brink of their own disaster. Salor, an imaginary Armenian village tightly bound to its traditions, seems to be cut off from the rest of the world by the mountains surrounding it. Days pass with fields, pastures, animals and harvest.
While Anno and Daron longingly count the days until they will be reunited with each other, they do not know that their days are actually numbered. Because although life would continue peacefully and calmly for this isolated village for a while, the process of destruction of the Armenians began in parallel with the Ottoman Empire's entry into the First World War, and fear turned into a daily feeling with the news of the massacre reaching the village.
In the novel that Boyadjian places on a historical basis, including the Van resistance and the role played by Armenian sacrifices and Kurdish tribes in 1915, ordinary villagers in an ordinary Anatolian village return to their beloved village, their mountains, their families, their lovers and their loved ones. You will read their forced farewells to their poppies, and you will witness that love will not die even if the lovers die.
