Gülizar is the story of a very beautiful, very strong, very resilient woman. It's not just a story; It is the record of a life that has been lived, documented, passed down from generation to generation, almost legendary. Approximately 130 years ago, it first aroused the people of Muş and Bitlis, then the local administrators, then the Ottoman capital and finally the public opinion of many foreign countries; inspiring people; A first-hand account of a great resistance that became the subject of songs and folk songs. Gülizar was the daughter of a respected Armenian family living in the Muş region. She was only 14 years old when a local tyrant named Musa Bey, who oppressed the Armenian and Kurdish people, raided the mansion where her family lived and kidnapped her. Musa wanted to force Gülizar to marry his brother Cevahir when the sheikhs did not allow him to marry the little girl on the grounds that he already had four wives. However, Gülizar resisted. He neither surrendered his body to those who coveted him, nor denied the Christian faith. He was subjected to violence for this cause and lost one of his eyes. When the news that she did not bow down and that she was silently fighting in the Musa Bey mansion where she was detained reached her family, who were not even sure whether their daughter was alive or not, this time, a struggle for rights unprecedented in Ottoman history began. Especially Gülizar's mother did nothing to save her daughter. This resistance eventually forced the local administrators to take Gülizar to court. Thus, a legal struggle began that would last for years and eventually be moved to Istanbul by the order of Sultan Abdülhamit, watched with interest by foreign observers and reflected in the European press. The real story of Gülizar was told in 1946 by a valuable musicologist who was an expert on Muş folk music. Her daughter, Arménounie Kévonian, who is known for her invaluable works, published it in Armenian in Paris, as she heard it from her mouth. In the later French editions of the book, Gülizar's grandchildren, historian Anahide Ter Minassian and researcher Keğam Kévonian, told their grandmother's story, the political and political developments of the period. In this first Turkish edition, Aras Publishing also includes many photographs reflecting Gülizar and other heroes of the event. In a period when women are exposed to male violence every day and the women's struggle is on the rise. , with the belief that Gülizar's life story will inspire many today, as it did yesterday.
