Honecker 21
Modern-day Berlin on New Year's Eve. An employee of a mobile telephone company; Matthias Honecker is tired of this world where his car, coffee machine and exterior coatings betray him. Just as he is about to fall into depression, his wife, a "trendy" intellectual, gifts him their first child. Marriage crisis, the first struggles of a feared maturity, or a desperate and timid attempt at rebellion? He must attend the fake feast that a boss imposes on his employees, to be held on New Year's Eve, far from Berlin, on the Pomeranian border. Surprising experiences that fate has prepared for him await Honecker, who has the courage to dare an existential rebellion, perhaps for the first time.
Jean-Yves Cendrey, in this novel in which he draws the portrait of a touching and cheerful character, tells the tragicomic adventures of the hero in a sarcastic, effective and harsh language. Honecker 21 is a different story of today's Sarlo, who has no tomorrow and can only struggle in the present.
"The person lying here made a career, made love, had children, did what was really necessary, but none of them made a profit; he died very unhappy."
