According to the famous historian Hobsbawm: “20. In the second half of the century, the most dramatic and very important social change that severed our relationship with the past world forever was the death of the peasantry. (...) Only one peasant stronghold remained around Europe and the Middle East – in Turkey the peasantry declined but still remained an absolute majority in the mid-1980s.” The main subject of this book is the transformations of the peasantry with capitalism, in the light of historical and theoretical data in the world and in Turkey, accompanied by discussions about the peasantry; It is the story of what happened to the peasantry, especially in Turkey.

In this study, the effects of different transformation processes of the peasantry on industrialization in different capitalism models are examined; The specificity of agricultural dynamics and agriculture, which are different from capitalist capital accumulation paths in industry, is emphasized;
In the 20th century, where concrete developments in the world were examined, important turning points of agriculture and agricultural policies were discussed.

The changes in the agricultural structure in Turkey from 1923 to the present day, agricultural policies and discussions on the peasantry cover more than half of the book.

How socialists and social scientists evaluate the process of change in the peasantry is a history of thought in itself. In this study, events, processes and classes are examined on the axis of peasantry within the integrity of social history and history of thought.
