Kars Kurds
This study, which deals with the Kars Kurds in many aspects, clarifies the demographic structure of 804 settlements in Kars a century ago. Rohat Alakom's book is a first in this field with its rich visual material, versatile and comprehensive content.
Is there any other city where different cultures live together as much as the city of Kars?
“Kars Kurds” was prepared, above all, to contribute to an impartial historiography of Kars. Because the history of Kars has not been fully written yet. Sources on Kars Kurds are almost non-existent. In the book, which covers the historical and cultural heritage of the Kurds in this border city, the multiculturalism around Kars is also touched upon, in the case of the Kurds. The cultural dynamism and colorfulness created by the different groups and cultures that settled in Kars after the Russian occupation from the end of the 19th century are highlighted in the book. This book was written to bring together the broken pieces of the Caucasian mosaic formed by Turkish, Azeri, Karapapak, Kurdish, Armenian, Georgian, Russian and other people groups in Kars, to repair them, to give a new shape to these pieces, and to keep this mosaic alive.
