In Cemal Süreya's poetry, the body can be described as a constant source of tension. Its linguistic representation runs on a spectrum from devotional love to flirtatiousness. In this sense, the flirtatious and the ascetic, the imperfect body and the perfect body, the erotic body and the neutral body come side by side. Erotic discourse within this broad framework varies from implicit to priapical.
In this work, Selim Temo interprets the body and erotic discourse in Cemal Süreya's poem together with its roots in literary history. This book, which is one of the first studies to trace the body in poetry, is full of many new sentences about Cemal Süreya's poetry.
