Mahir - Onların Öyküsü

When the intensity in the history of the left movement in Türkiye and the research conducted on this history are evaluated, we see that there is no parallelism. Although the political history of the left has a history of nearly a hundred years, published works on this subject are very limited. There are many reasons for this. The most important reason is that it is a banned date. Those who were curious about the political history of the left first tried to learn about the subject from anti-communist publications. However, after 1961, more serious research began to be published on this subject. Now, the issue has gradually reached a level that requires detailed studies in certain areas such as youth, unions, and international relations. However, they say, "writing history is more difficult than making history." It would be beneficial for the reader to know how such a book, which has overcome certain difficulties and reached the hands of a reader, was prepared and written. With this preliminary information, the reader can better understand the book he reads, evaluate it better, and further increase the knowledge and pleasure he will gain. In addition, it can further strengthen the trust relationship between the writer and the reader. This biographical book about Mahir Çayan is not much different from research on the general history of the left. This book was prepared as follows: The first problem faced by researchers was economic. The second problem is compiling and gathering the information to be obtained. While preparing the book, it was necessary to travel to different places at home and abroad to interview people who knew the subject first-degree and to examine documents and documents. This problem continued until the completion of the book. Preparing Mahir's biography was, of course, not easy. When I started collecting documents in '91, I never thought that I would have to read thousands of pages of documents and research and that I would have to conduct interviews that would fill more than a hundred tapes. At first, I had difficulty accessing direct information. The most important reason for this is that the majority of first-hand witnesses who knew the incident are not alive. The second reason is the difficulty of accessing documents (court minutes, statements, etc.) held by the state. In addition, a significant part of the documents that the defendant's lawyers should have were lost due to detention-arrest-search.
