Mai and Black - In Today's Turkish
"Look at the sky, what do you see, a sea of blue. Try to get into it with your eyes; try to tear those blues, what do you see? Blue ... It's always blue... Isn't it? Then, look at the ground under our feet, what do you find? A frozen black color... Oh!... Break those black layers and look inside; get down, get down, get down as far as you can. What do you see in that blackness? Isn't it always black? I want to write something like this: If you look up, it's always blue; if you look down, it's always black. >While preparing this text for publication, we did not follow examples that separated the work from its historical and cultural context, either through simplification or word changes, as we did not find it correct and thought it would be more in line with the principle set by the author. Instead, we transferred the relevant sentences to the original text, thus transferring the historical and cultural aspects of the work. We chose to update it to fit its context. Even though we have deviated from the existing text in some places on this issue, we can say that we adhere to the method and the original text specified by the author. After the comparative original text, with this study we show that the work, defined as a novel of a period or a generation, is free from deficiencies and errors, not separated from its historical and cultural context, colorful and artistic. We tried to create an up-to-date version without any damage to the narrative. We hope you didn't succeed.

"I think two days later, Halit and I [Refig] will have a talk on TV about Ask-i Memnu. I read Mai and Black, Broken Lives and Ask-i Memnu back to back. Halit's As he said, Halit Ziya is similar to me in terms of leaning towards people and their spiritual states. Also, it can be said that there is a similarity in feelings with the 'unstickable' characters in Broken Lives and Mai and Black. Ahmet Cemil fades away under the influence of small calculations as well as his big dreams.
