Zabel Yesayan, who has attracted great attention with his books translated into Turkish, tells the story of Emma, a painter from Istanbul who lived abroad for many years, about her internal calculations and difficulties after her return to her hometown. 'My Spirit of Exile', one of the first literary works written by Yesayan after 1915 and published in 1922, takes into account the tensions experienced by Armenians in particular and all Ottoman citizens in general, in approximately 1910, and focuses on the feelings of belonging to a country, feeling exiled even at home. He takes an Ottoman photograph on both an individual and sociological level, around themes such as feeling and dealing with art under conditions where everything is determined by politics. 'My Exiled Spirit', which is also a "homecoming" story, questions what kind of exiles are the scene of exile behind the magnificent appearances of a heavenly Istanbul and the author's hometown, Üsküdar. Another striking and shocking work from Zabel Yesayan, one of the most important Ottoman-Armenian intellectuals of his time.
