Nostromo
In Nostromo, Conrad describes a painful period in a developing South American country. Costaguana stabilized under European-installed dictator Ribiera; But the revolution is at the door. The independence of the western province and the fate of the silver in the San Tomé mine are entrusted to the Italian sailor Nostromo. So, is Nostromo as strong as everyone thinks, or will his principles fall under the corrupt political and economic system? This story, in which Conrad fills an imaginary country, which he calls "an enormous canvas", with interesting international characters, is a South American history that is still familiar even though a century has passed.
"I wish I had written Nostromo rather than any other novel."
