Coups from the Ottoman Empire to the Present Book Description: Not only our multi-party democratic life, but also our long imperial history has been battered by coups and coup attempts. On the other hand, as the latest July 15 attempt showed, it is not possible to say that the book of coups is closed. This tradition of intervention, which is one of the structural symptoms of our political culture, not only hindered the institutionalization of our democracy, its establishment in the civil political sphere and its development, but unfortunately also left behind a legacy in which human rights and freedoms were disregarded. This compilation, based on the special issue of the Social History magazine, discusses the common and different features of coups and coup attempts in the Ottoman and Republican periods, with new additions, and also pursues the social and popular reflections of the coups, from cartoons to songs.
