Paul and Virginie-Hasan Ali Yücel Classics (Hardcover Book)
Jacques Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737-1814): French writer and botanist. He served as an engineer on the island of Mauritius and experienced first-hand life in the French colonies in the Indian Ocean. Primitive life in the colonies inspired his works, especially Paul and Virginie, Voyage à l'île de France, and La Chaumière indienne. He is a devoted follower of JJ Rousseau, with whom he is a friend, and one of the first supporters of his orientation towards primitive cultures. Paul and Virginie, to which the author owes his fame, is the tragic story of the innocent love between two young people who grew up together on an island, being dragged into the abyss with the intervention of civilization, and the collapse of the idyllic paradise that surrounded the lives of these two innocent young people. Since it was one of the first translations from Western literature during the Tanzimat period, it became one of the first ambassadors of Romanticism, which shaped our new literature for a while, in our country. Paul and Virginie is in the Hasan Âli Yücel Classics Series with a brand new translation.
