Master from Petersburg
The Master from Petersburg Book Description
In the autumn of 1869, Famous Russian writer Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky is called to Petersburg from Germany, where he lived as a voluntary exile. Nearing fifty, the unhappy and angry writer returns to Petersburg using a false name, despite the danger of being caught by his creditors and his fear of the secret police. The reason for his return is the mysterious and unexpected death of his stepson Pavel. The grieving Dostoyevsky will not be able to find peace until he learns the secret behind the death of Pavel, from whom he loved very much but was estranged. Was his son's death a suicide or murder? Did Pavel love or hate his stepfather? Is he one of those who swore allegiance to the revolutionary Nechayev, who tried to overthrow the state and all its institutions by engaging in acts of violence? While the famous author traces Pavel's death, he is forced to confront hard-to-accept facts about his own identity and stance in life.
