Pir Hacı Bayram-ı Veli
Pir Hacı Bayram-ı Veli, (Ankara, 1352 - Ankara, 1429), Turkish mystic and poet. The great saint who gave the good news that Istanbul would be conquered by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. He is the disciple of Sheikh Hâmid Hâmid'ûd-Dîn-i Veli, one of the students of Hoca Alâ ad-Dîn Ali Erdebilî, one of the elders of the Safavid Sect, and the founder of the Bayramîyye Sect. His tomb is located next to Pir Hacı Bayram Mosque in Ankara. Hacı Bayram-ı Veli is one of the most important Anatolian Sufis who was as effective as the political and military forces in restoring the Anatolian Turkish Unity in the 15th century.
Based on various researches, Pir Hacı Bayram Veli is one of the foundations of Anatolian Alevism. Both the traditions and views of Erdebil Lodge and the Sufi views and actions of Anatolian lodges are in perfect harmony with Bayramiye. It is quite difficult to see Hacı Bayram Veli within Sunni traditions and patterns. The Bayramiye Sect, founded by Pir Hacı Bayram Veli, could not maintain its independence and continued with various branches. Although it was close to the Safavid branch of the Alevis and was influenced by that lodge, Bayramiism fell into the Sunni tradition over time. Other sects; Anatolian Alevi sects such as Haydari, Babai, Bektashi, Kalender, Melami and Ahi were integrated with Bektashism and disappeared.
