Sheikh Said
Sheikh Said Book Description
"The Sheikh Said Uprising is perhaps the most important event in the history of the Republic. Because all the pillars of the new regime could be implemented in the favorable environment created after the events were suppressed. Through the Independence Courts and the Takrir-i Sükûn Law, all opposition elements throughout the country were alleged to be connected to the uprising or to have caused the uprising. The Progressive Republican Party, the press and the opinion leaders, thinkers, sheikhs, etc. who represent the Islamic identity in the country, were either silenced or eliminated on the grounds that the people of the country were "disciplined" by the policies of criticism, deportation, denial and assimilation. It was a period in which both Islamophobia and the denial of Kurdish identity were carried out together in the name of the construction of the Turkish Nation identity, and problems that still continue today were created.
"The purpose of this study is to analyze this period and the developments that followed, and to reveal the anachronistic aspects of the Kemalist, Communist-Socialist, Kurdish Nationalist and Islamist political analyzes regarding the Sheikh Said Uprising, both during the Republican period and today."
As those who believe that it is not possible to open the door to a genuine confrontation with the official ideology, especially without understanding the policies of hostility towards Islamic identity in the first years of the Republic, the sufferings of the Muslim people and the prices they paid, we believe that the book will make a modest contribution to the discussions in this context.
