Fitzgerald, who brought the unforgettable Gatsby character to world literature, presents a striking slice of 1930s Hollywood in his latest novel, The Last Dream. Cecilia is the daughter of Pat Brady, one of Hollywood's most famous producers. He is in love with his father's colleague, young and successful producer Monroe Stahr, so he follows Stahr and investigates her life. Stahr, who devoted his whole life to his work after losing his wife, was so impressed by Kathleen's resemblance to his wife that he encountered on the movie set, and he lost control of his life. On the other hand, Hollywood, known for its wealth, ostentation and flamboyance, will begin to shake with the arrival of Brimmer, a member of the Communist Party, who is trying to create unity in the film world. The Last Dream, which Fitzgerald constructed in this way, was left unfinished when the author had a heart attack and died. After Fitzgerald's death, writer and critic Edmund Wilson, his close friend, created the book by bringing together the written chapters and drafts and published it in 1941. In this unfinished book, Fitzgerald criticizes the Hollywood film industry, where he worked for a while, from an insider's perspective.

“The Last Dream is an ambitious book, even though it is unfinished; One would have to be blind not to see that if it were completed, it would be both Fitzgerald's best and a very beautiful novel.”

J. Donald Adams
