This long interview by Michael Albert with Noam Chomsky begins with a discussion on the responsibility of intellectuals. From this point of view, many issues such as the function of social sciences and cultural institutions, the successes and failures of leftist movements in the USA and around the world, what an activist ethic and a libertarian opposition organization should be like are discussed.

The interview style sometimes makes the reader feel that every topic discussed here actually needs to be discussed in more detail. Finding ready-made answers to the questions in our minds is always a comfortable task, but thinking, developing a perspective and understanding, opening them up for discussion, and ultimately reaching a compromise or common denominator should be the basic element of an intellectual and activist ethic.
