Zaza- speaking Kurds mainly live in Çolig (Bingöl) and its surroundings, Solhan, Darê Hênî (Genç), Dêrsim (Tunceli) and its surroundings. Zaza Kurds constitute the majority of the population in Dêrsim and Çolig. These two provinces are considered the central region of Zaza Kurds. A significant part of the population in Dîyarbekir, Xarpêt (Elazığ) and Erzingan (Erzincan) speaks this dialect. In addition, there is a sparse Zaza population in neighboring provinces such as Semsûr (Adıyaman), Bedlîs (Bitlis), Erzirom (Erzurum), Mûş (Muş), Sêwaz (Sivas), Sêrt (Siirt) and Riha (Urfa). In some of these provinces, it can be said that the Zazaki dialect is spoken only within the borders of one district. Aldûş (Gerger) districts of Semsûr, Sêwreg (Siverek) districts of Riha, Motkan (Mutki) districts of Bedlis can be given as examples of this. Zazaki, or Kirdki, is the third largest dialect of Kurdish, after Kurmanji and Sorani, with an estimated one and a half million speakers.
While preparing this book, field work was carried out and it was prepared based on important empirical data and is important as it is the first scientific ethnographic and sociological research describing Zaza Kurds in the international arena.
