The book you have in your hand is about the genocide process that started on August 3, 2014 and targeted the Yazidis living in the Shengal region of Iraq. The Shingal Genocide is told based on oral history interviews with Yazidis who survived the massacre and stayed in camps in Turkish Kurdistan. Field work was carried out for about a year with a team formed within the scope of the research project titled 73rd Edict of the Yazidis: Shingal Genocide , carried out within the Zan Foundation. In-depth interviews were held with approximately one hundred Yazidis staying in Diyarbakır, Batman and Siirt camps, and these recorded interviews were deciphered and translated from Kurdish to Turkish. The book you have is based mainly on the data of this field study.
Yazidis who were attacked by the terrorist organization named Islamic State of Iraq and Syria ( ISIS ) on August 3, 2014; They were subjected to many inhumane treatments, including mass murder, rape, confiscation of women and children, and the sale of women and children in medieval slave markets. In addition to the great destruction they faced, the use of Yazidi women as concubines, their sale in slave markets, and their sending to many Middle Eastern countries for sale caused a severe trauma in the Yazidi community. With this attack targeting an identity, a belief, the geography of Shengal and the culture and lifestyle that continued there were intended to be ended. We do not have serious data about how many people lost their lives as a result of this attack against the Yazidis, the number and fate of women and children taken captive. Yazidis , who experienced this great tragedy before the eyes of the world in the 21st century, mostly had to leave their ancestral lands and embark on migration routes.
