Claudius James Rich's two-volume work "A journey from the Lower Tigris to Baghdad - a visit to Shiraz and Persepolis, a biography in Kurdistan and Ancient Nineveh" by Claudius James Rich, one of the most important sources on the Kurds and the Near East, is now in Turkish. The book translated by Arif Karabağ was published in a single volume.

Claudius James Rich pioneered the beginning of archaeological studies in Mesopotamia by carrying out the first research in Babylon. He made trips in the Near and Middle East between 1803-1807. In 1808, he was appointed as the Baghdad representative of the British East India Company. While continuing this duty, he carried out the first researches in the city of Ancient Babylon in 1811. He created a large collection of cuneiform bricks, tablets and seals. His works containing the results of his studies attracted the attention of many readers to these countries.

What Claudius James Rich and his friend J. Walker wrote about his book is not just history and geography that come to life on the canvas; It is also the fate and character of nations that rely on the power of language, the virtue of religion, the richness of folklore and beyond borders: “The pages describe the detailed journey of a distinguished person in another country. They define the geography of Kurdistan in a new and powerful expression and describe the lifestyle of its inhabitants. Certain geographical landmarks now ascertained will help to determine the boundaries not only of different regions of Kurdistan, but also of vital geographical areas with distinctive types of people in this part of Asia. Mr. Rich, by the combined powers of pencil and ink, and the addition of scientific work, has made up the shortcomings of Kurdistan, which, even on our best maps, which had previously been very imperfectly made for another part of Asia, was shown as a mere mass of uncertainty. "The honor of this innovation belongs to him and his country."
