With its novel fiction written within a novel and its structure bearing deep traces from Peyami Safa's own life, A Novel of Tereddüdün depicts the fatigue of living during the armistice years and after the war, the upheaval of social values, the breaking of ties with the past, moral crisis, material and spiritual misery, nothingness. The pain of not being able to fully connect is based on people's hesitation between believing and denying, building and destroying, loving and hating, good and evil, rebelling and submitting, dying and living.
