Divan literature, which constituted the bedii taste of the Turkish nation for six centuries, developed under the influence of Islamic civilization, gave wonderful examples over time, and eventually gave way to a literature under the influence of Western literatures. Like every literature, divan literature has its own world of thought, taste and imagination. Living conditions, which have changed in parallel with the passing of time, have eliminated the characteristics, tastes, understanding of art, superstitions, beliefs, real and western sciences specific to divan literature, and this literature has ceased to be a mirror of life. In other words, the changing living conditions and the changing system of thought with the influence of the modern world also affected divan literature and caused it to become unusable. This change is the main reason why divan literature is not understood today and even is hostile to it. However, it should not be forgotten that this literature is our own property and is an understanding of art originating from ourselves.
