Accumulation Crisis

"American individualism" is the most powerful weapon of capital's ideological domination over labor in the United States. Individualist ideologies are stronger than racist and sexist ideologies because these ideologies are deeply entrenched in British and Anglo-American economic, social and political life. Indisputably, ethnic affiliations, race, and sexuality mediate the dominance of essentially and entirely individualistic ideologies. However, these hegemonic ideologies and their myths of the "self," private property, and natural rights "influence" ethnicity, race, and sexuality with an inevitable and unconscious force that reifies or destroys "traditional" community, ethnic, and sexual identities. ..Natural rights individualism was strongly revived in the early 1980s with the Reagan administration ideology and policy. Thus, the ghost of the New Leviathan was revived.
