Thomas Paine (1737-1809): He is one of the most important writers, intellectuals and revolutionary thinkers of the Enlightenment period. He played an important role in the preparation of the American Declaration of Independence with his treatises and especially his work Common Sense. He became one of the most important figures who strengthened the foundations of the French Revolution with his work titled Human Rights, which he wrote in 1792. He was arrested during the reign of Robespierre when he was one of three non-French members of the parliament. The Age of Reason, the first part of which he wrote while he was in prison, was met with interest all over the world. The Age of Reason, one of the fundamental works of the Enlightenment period, when people began to approach dogmas with suspicion, maintains its originality today, like Thomas Paine's other works.
