Ali Şükrü Bey ve Tan Gazetesi
This book, which introduces the Tan newspaper, is a documentary contribution to Ahmet Demirel's previously published review titled Opposition in the First Parliament: Second Group. Tan, owned and edited by Ali Sükrü Bey, who served as the Trabzon Deputy in the First Parliament, started his publishing career on January 19, 1923, in order to spread the views of the Second Group. The newspaper, which was published six days a week, could only publish 68 issues because its editor-in-chief was murdered a few months later, which has still not been fully clarified.
In this compilation prepared by bringing together Tans scattered in different libraries, first the basic views of the Second Group and then the content of the newspaper are evaluated. Then, the transcriptions of almost all of the editorials written by Ali Sükrü Bey, articles other than the editorial that are deemed important, and the series of articles titled "Public and Government" also prepared by Ali Sükrü Bey are included. Each of the articles about the Lausanne negotiations, which constituted the most important agenda item at the time the newspaper was published, is an important document. Moreover, it is particularly noteworthy that the topics discussed in many articles intersect with current debates. It is an important resource where researchers as well as anyone interested in our recent history can find “something” and contributes to a better understanding of the founding days of the Republic of Turkey.
