Amok Runner is the story of a man who, as a doctor, is stuck between his conscientious obligation to lend a hand to a person in need and his own complex emotions. A doctor working in the Dutch East Indies rejects the request for "help" from a very rich woman who came to him in a difficult situation. Because he became very angry at the woman's proud and calculating attitude and succumbed to his pride. However, what is at stake is human life. He soon falls into the grip of regret. The doctor, who is obsessed with helping the woman, falls under the influence of amok, a fever that is a kind of murderous madness found in the Malaysian people.
