Ancient Society Volume 1 Book Description Lewis Henry Morgan, who is considered the founder of evolutionist ethnology, opposed the injustices committed against the indigenous peoples of the American continent after studying law. Morgan lived among the Indians between 1851 and 1877, wrote about his observations and research in his books, and became one of the iconic figures of anthropology. He also inspired Friedrich Engels with his work The Old Society; Engels compared this work with Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species and created his work The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State. As a result of his thirty years of experience among the Indians, Morgan claims that humanity has passed through the stages of savagery, barbarism and civilization, and he does not limit his claim to the American Indians only, but also demonstrates that the same stages were experienced in all the first societies in the world. According to Morgan, humanity is one and one in origin; passed through the same roads in different places, at different times; have reached similar stages of civilization/development by completing the same processes. Ancient Society, which is considered one of the most important sources on ethnology, reveals with extensive research how we have reached today's social forms and social organizations, and that change will continue in the same way from now on and take us to another stage. “Lewis Henry Morgan, the founder of ethnology, has many views and evaluations that remain valid today, even after more than a hundred years. It would be useful for those who criticize Morgan to consider whether they can be as successful as Morgan in the face of time and what human values their work today serves.” -Unsal Oskay (From the Promotional Bulletin)
