Euripides (c.484-406 BC): He has a special place as the artist whose most works have survived to the present day among the three great tragic poets produced by Athens. This feature is attributed to the fact that he was a more admired poet among the public, even though he did not win the first prize as much as Aeschylus and Sophocles at the festivals. The heroes of Euripides' plays have human weaknesses and flaws, and the tragedies they experience arise from these flaws and their passions that they cannot give up. Euripides can be considered the first of the classical or modern poets who produced works closest to contemporary theater. The Andromache tragedy, most likely written at the beginning of the Peloponnesian War, between 427-425 BC, was inspired by two different legends, the myth of Neoptolemus, the son of Achilles, and the myth of Hermione and the myth of Andromache. Euripides freely combined the two myths and added some new details. While praising the morality of Athens, he satirized the cruelty of Sparta and once again displayed in this work his opposition to war, which he expressed in many of his works.
