Ankara Monument Book Description Augustus, the first emperor of Rome, writes his will on April 3, 13 AD and delivers it to the Vestal priestesses four months before his death. The second roll of this will, which is in three rolls, is the document describing the services performed by Augustus personally. The Emperor ordered that this document, known as Res Gestae, be engraved with bronze plates and hung at the entrance of his mausoleum. After his death, this will will be fulfilled, and it is even expected that these plates will be copied and sent to various provinces of the empire to be read by all citizens, thus increasing the respect for both the Emperor's person and the empire, which lived its golden age during his reign. However, the signs do not stay where they are hung and disappear over time. In the 16th century, in the city of Ankara, a marble copy of Asia Minor written bilingually in Latin and Greek was discovered by Augerius Gislenius Busbequius, and this discovery was later named Monumentum Ancyranum (Ankara Monument) and became one of the most important discoveries in the history of epigraphy and classical philology. He is buried in a great silence until he receives it. (From the Promotional Bulletin)
