Hippocrates of Kos (460-370 BC): He saved medicine from the shadow of superstitions and transformed it into an art based on rational foundations, thus going down in history as the "father of medicine". The understanding he put forward was adopted by different societies and cultures over time, and was even transferred to the Western and Islamic Middle Ages through Galen (2nd century AD) and continued to be influential until the 18th century, when the foundations of modern science were laid. The compilation attributed to him, Hippocrates Collection, consists of approximately sixty texts touching on many subjects, from the human body structure to the causes of diseases, even technical rules and moral principles to be observed in practice, and is the most basic and comprehensive source on medicine that has survived from ancient times to the present day. The Aphorisms, which are considered the apple of this compilation and have been used by physicians for centuries, are a door to the understanding of medicine of Hippocrates, who broke new ground in the history of medicine.
