Armenians in Modern Turkey

The end of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Republic symbolized a brand new era, but this transition period did not bring rupture in many respects, but rather continuity. The "minority policy" inherited by the empire became the determining factor in the relations of the surviving Armenians in Turkey with the state and society. After the great earthquakes, the Armenian society, on the one hand, was struggling with issues such as the care of orphans and the living conditions of Armenians in Anatolia, and on the other hand, was trying to combat the anti-Armenianism fueled by the mainstream press. The already fragile social structure would feel the effects of both state practices and the power struggle in world politics to its core.
