Baragan's Thistles Book Description Baragan's Thistles, the gripping novel of Panait Istrati, known as the "Gorky of Balkan literature", is the story of poverty told through the eyes of a child, inspired by real events. In this novel, Istrati takes the reader to Romanian lands, reveals what kind of misery the people of Baragan live in, and the most effective part of the book is that he makes them watch that misery through the eyes of a poor child and hear it through his tongue.
