Rather than telling the experiences of a single person, folk tales tell the story of the struggles of Anatolia during the process of becoming a Turkish homeland through a heroic character. Although this hero is a fixed historical figure, the narratives are symbolic. The hero fights against tyrants in every corner of the earth from the west to the east and from the seventh floor of the sky to the seventh floor of the underworld. These tyrants can sometimes be humans, sometimes giants, demons, witches, dragons. His mission is to eliminate tyranny no matter where and who it comes from. There is no room for despair on this path. Because, Allah helps the good.

The Story of Battal Gazi is the most famous of these stories that are completely Turkish after the Battles of Hazreti Ali and the Story of Abu Muslim Khorassani from our Folk Tales.

Although Battal Gazi is a person who lived in the eighth century and showed heroism in the Umayyad army, in the imagination of the Turkish people he is a warrior from Malatya and in the eyes of the Westerners he is a Turkish hero. Therefore, Folk Tales show that Turkishness cannot be explained by belonging to a race or by communities migrating from somewhere in the world. Moreover, there is no expression in the story indicating that Battal Gazi is Turkish. Because in Turkish, the name for oppression is infidelity and a Turk is against all kinds of infidelity. In other words, the one who fights against infidels is called a Turk.

Folk Stories, which convey Turkish language and culture to every individual of the nation, include all the elements of modern literature, from poetry to novels, from stories to theater, from fairy tales to letters. The language of Folk Stories is Turkish. Therefore, learning Turkish is possible by knowing these stories.
