Being an Alevi in Germany

Although the people we interviewed said that the number of members of Cemevi was low, people who did not know the number were not surprised when they learned the number of members of Cemevi (with a few exceptions). The fact that people do not pay much attention to the membership figures is noteworthy in the context of showing the results of some of our approaches to why Alevis could not establish a monolithic political union under the title of "Who are the Alevi Groups that constitute the subject of the study" in the first part of our study. Because the historical divisions among Alevis are not events that only affect the "moment" in history, but have revealed a series of vital phenomena of social importance, the consequences of which affect yesterday and today, and therefore may also affect the future. In this context, the fact that the number of members of Mannheim Cemevi is low and that Alevis take this for granted and see it as normal makes it necessary to understand the dimensions of the picture that shows the current "moment" of the Alevi community. This is not just a problem in Mannheim and Germany, it is a representation of a cleavage and confusion of consciousness that manifests itself in the entire Alevi community from Turkey to Germany.
