Elmas also extended her bandaged arms to the baby. Afraid of hurting himself, Bayram quietly left his son in Elmas' arms. Now Elmas and Öksüz were nose to nose. They were sniffing like a female animal and her cub, rubbing their noses together, burrowing into each other's necks and making strange purring noises. The baby's little hands were wandering around Elmas's hair, and Elmas's lips were wandering over the baby's face. Elmas took out her breast and put it into the baby's mouth, without being ashamed or offended by anyone visiting the other patients or by Bayram. The baby was gurgling like a happy kitten, sucking the dry breast that did not leak milk. The woman and the child were intertwined with each other, as if they had become one body.
