Kısa İnceleme
Brief Study is a text that sparks controversy both in terms of its place in Spinoza's works and the intellectual development of its author. The critical question that determines the discussions is this: In which language, by whom and when was the Brief Review written? While there are those who argue that the Short Treatise was written directly by Spinoza and that it is a preparatory text that takes the reader to Ethics, there are also those who argue the opposite. But whether it comes directly from Spinoza or is dictated by him, the Brief Treatise is close enough to the Ethics and other Spinoza works. Moreover, beyond this closeness, the book also offers interesting differences for Spinozists. According to one claim, what distinguishes it from the rest of Spinoza's works is that the young Spinoza's thought contains Christian elements compared to the non-religious thought of the mature Spinoza. Another difference is that the Brief Study contains two "Discourses", which appear for the first and last time as a literary-philosophical genre in Spinoza's works. For some researchers, these are proof that Spinoza was initially close to the naturalistic and mystical pantheism of the Italian Renaissance, and that his mature Spinozism came from a thought bearing the influences of neoplatonism. This edition is based primarily on the English translations by S. Shirley (Spinoza, Complete Works, 2002) and E. Curley (Collected Works of Spinoza, 1988).
