Buddhism - Isms Series 3 Book Description Buddhism is a religion with more than 500 million believers in the world today. It first appeared in India, and then spread over time to Southeast and East Asia (countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Tibet). The goal of Buddhism, which is defined as religion or philosophy according to different perspectives; is to explain the sources of pain, suffering and dissatisfaction in life and to show ways to eliminate them. In Buddhism, the main framework of teachings is concepts such as introspection methods such as meditation, the repetition of the birth-death cycle called reincarnation, and the cause-effect chain called karma. Buddhism is derived from the word Buddha, meaning awakened person - aware, in ancient Buddhist texts in Sanskrit and Pali languages. Siddhartha, also called the "Historical Buddha", is considered the founder of Buddhism. It is accepted that, as a result of his long studies to explain the source of suffering in life, Siddhartha reached a spiritual understanding that would end suffering and thus attained Buddhahood.
