Two neighbors whose destinies intersect with the mysterious bond of their names, Eliot Nailles and Paul Hammer: nails and a hammer. Nailles is a man who commutes to his job in the city by suburban train and is infinitely devoted to his family. Hammer is a half-madman born out of wedlock and suffering from what he calls "depression". After traveling the world, he decides that the only way to relieve his inner restlessness is to kill someone in the suburbs, and for this purpose he settles in Bullet Park.

In this striking novel, John Cheever, one of the most important writers of the 20th century, dissects the American suburbs, which are also the main setting of his stories; he examines the dubious "normality" of those living in white houses that are copies of each other with a satirical language. Bullet Park is a black humor novel that reveals the tragicomic nature of the American dream.

"A work that is in a class by itself, not only within the Cheever oeuvre, but among all the novels I know."
-Joseph Heller-

"John Cheever is a magical realist, and his style, which we encounter in his sparkling stories and in his unique novels such as Bullet Park and Falconer, is as colorful and original as the style of all the other pioneering writers of post-war American literature."
-Philip Roth-
