Since the Middle Ages, imperial palaces have been very important in terms of the external appearance of Byzantium. Despite this, the number of comprehensive analysis studies covering every aspect of these palaces is almost non-existent. Byzantine Palace Culture brings together the articles presented at the "Byzantine Palace Culture from 829 to 1204" symposium held at Dumbarton Oaks in 1994, under the leadership of Henry Maguire, who was the Director of Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks for a long time.
