This unique study, conducted under the direction of Cécile Morrisson from the Center for Byzantine History and Civilization, describes the founding period of the Eastern Roman Empire, or as historians later called it, the "Byzantine" Empire. This Eastern empire was actually more stable and richer than the West, and as Justinian's recapture of Africa from the Vandals, Italy from the Ostrogoths, and southern Spain from the Visigoths shows, it never gave up on the idea of a "Roman Union". He did not turn his back. Eastern Roman Empire 330-641, the first volume of the three-volume work under the title of Byzantine World, covers the period from the foundation of Constantinople (330 AD) to the end of the Heraclius period (641 AD). This book focuses in chapters on the main regions of the empire, extending from the Balkans to Egypt, and the historical, social and cultural characteristics of these regions. This work, written avoiding simple clichés, clearly reveals the reasons for both the prosperity of the Eastern Roman Empire and its gradual decline from 550 AD. The period of decline called Mid-Byzantium, which began with the Arabs' conquest of first Syria and Palestine and then Egypt, is described in the second volume titled Byzantine Empire 641-1204 under the direction of Claude Cheynet, which will also be published by Ayrınti Publications. The Greek Empire and Its Neighbors under Angeliki Laiou and Cecile Morrisson xiii. and xiv. The third volume, titled Centuries (1204-1453), covers the last period of the Byzantine Empire. All these studies not only constantly refresh our knowledge of archaeology, epigraphy, numismatics and papyrology, but the scientific synthesis achieved by combining the results with traditional sources provides us with the opportunity to reconsider the political and military, religious, cultural, economic and social history of the Byzantine world.
