-Barbara L. Solow-
In this famous and influential book, Eric Williams traces the material origins of Global Africa and the modern world. Black people, who were forcibly taken and sold in masses from Africa to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean during capitalist slavery, played a vital role in the revival of capitalism with their labor power. Products that are very important for the development of capitalism, such as sugar, coffee and cotton, were produced by slaves whose bodies were confiscated. The trade triangle organized in the Atlantic between Africa, Europe and the Americas and the capital accumulated in this triangle triggered the Industrial Revolution. All of these ultimately enabled the West to gain superiority over the East and the South. But white intellectuals ignored this importance of the slavery and trade triangle for a very long time.
